Welcome Center Vegan Options – Niagara Falls, NY

We spent 2 days in and around the Welcome Center right outside of the Niagara Falls State Park in New York this past weekend. I was worried that there may be little or no vegan options, but was pleasantly surprised to find 2 food carts outside of the Welcome Center and a tea bar vendor inside the welcome center with vegan options.

I first tried a lentil burger from the Go Veggies, Inc. lunch truck. I was impressed to find that not only were all of their items vegan (and most gluten-free), but they listed ingredients for everything they sold and had very specific nutritional information listed as well. Pretty nice for a concession trailer! The husband got a mango pudding and I made sure my burger had the works. The burger (like many homemade veggie burgers) fell apart a little bit, but overall it was very good, rich in flavor, and I felt good eating it (much less processed than your standard frozen veggie burger).
I give the burger 4 out of 5 carrots on my veganlicious scale!

Later on, I delved inside the Welcome Center to grab a chocolate chip walnut scone from a place called The Tea Bar. I really would have preferred a muffin or a cookie (as they very prominently advertised that they had vegan baked goods), but the only person working at the place could not confirm which muffins were vegan. She knew the cookies they currently had were not and the scones were vegan. I’ve never been a huge fan of scones. Most are too dry and dense and probably are best eaten after dipping them in coffee or tea (neither which tickled my fancy). Nonetheless, I got the scone for the sake of research. The scone was good, but dry and crumbly at times, as I predicted.

The scone gets a mere 2 1/2 out of 5 carrots on my veganlicious meter!

As we were leaving the area I saw a burger lunch cart with Boca Burger cartons taped on their menu. I was so excited, I yelled out the window, “Do you have veggie dogs too?” to which the vendor yelled back, “Yeah!” Unfortunately, we were headed out of town, but it was nice to see yet another option available to me on a return visit. Go Niagara Falls, New York!
