Taste of Buffalo Review – Buffalo, NY

Billed as the “largest two-day food festival in the United States,” we had to check out Taste of Buffalo on our way back home from Niagara Falls.

The festival was set up with tons of food vendors, wine vendors, multiple stages with musicians, and more. Tickets were purchased in packs of 10 (which were $5 each) and food and drink items ranged between 2 to 8 tickets. They also gave you a booklet which provided a map of the different vendors, as well as the items they stocked, which were the healthiest selections sold by each vendor, and the number of tickets to purchase specific items. This made it very easy to find out quickly which vendors had vegan options. An added bonus was that a kind gentleman on his way out of the festival gave us 6 of his tickets for free since he wouldn’t be using them anymore. Nice!

I ended up getting a massive veggie burger from Zebb’s Deluxe Bar & Grill for 6 tickets (equivalent to $3). They confirmed that it was vegan when asked. It was the largest veggie burger (thickness-wise) that I’ve ever eaten! It was good and had black beans inside. It wasn’t the best veggie burger I’ve ever had.
I rate the burger 3 out of 5 carrots on my veganlicious meter!

For dessert, I got a fresh fruit pomegranate sorbet for 7 tickets from Sweet Melody’s! I can see why they won the award for the 2011 Independent Health Foundation’s Healthy Options. It was excellent and so refreshing on such a hot day!
The sorbet was a definite 5 out of 5 carrots on my veganlicious scale!

At the end, I had 2 tickets left to burn in my pocket, so I got a dill pickle from 58 Main Smokin BBQ. It was crisp, delicious, and just like a pickle you’d find in your average deli.
I give the pickle a 4 out of 5 carrots on my veganlicious scale!

Overall, it was a great experience. It was a little crowded towards the end, but I was very pleased to find vegan options at this event.
