The Pop Shop Review, Collingswood, NJ

I’ve always been a fan of diner food and 50’s style restaurants. Unfortunately, many of these places are not very veg-friendly. That has changed with The Pop Shop located on the main drag of Haddon Avenue in the very hip town of Collingswood, NJ.

They have several vegetarian and vegan items on their menu (including vegan pancakes that are so huge, they will make your belly bust!). They also carry Chicago Soy Dairy’s Teese, which is a soy vegan cheese for their famous grilled cheese sandwiches. I have to admit though, that I’m not a fan of Teese myself and hope for the day that they choose to use Daiya (and yes, I have suggested this to them before). They also carry Chicago Soy Dairy’s Temptation Ice Cream (excellent for making milkshakes), which I do really like.

My most recent trip to Pop Shop was for my mom’s birthday (she & the hubby love the Buffalo Tofu Wings – which are vegetarian). On this visit, I decided to try their Very Roasted Veggie sandwich (minus the cheese) along with a soy chocolate milkshake with Oreos. We also split an order of the Maryland Fries (Old Bay seasoning). Their fries are amazing!

The sandwich itself was good, but not spectacular. I really liked the bread and the pickle on the side, but wasn’t wowed by this experience. The milkshake though was thick, chocolate-y, overran the cup (as you see in the picture below), and was wonderfully delicious! *Note that the soy milkshakes aren’t explicitedly listed on the menu (from what I could see), but they carry Temptation’s chocolate and vanilla flavors and can add things to them.

Overall, I rate this trip to The Pop Shop as 3 1/2 out of 5 carrots on my veganlicious meter.
