I was spoiled!
Staying with Amber and Ducson was one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life. All of the food they prepared for me was exquisitely delicious. They spoiled me like I’ve never been spoiled before. They made me feel appreciated with their lovely hospitality. They both have warm, friendly smiles. They are very polite and well-spoken. I could tell that they cared about me and enjoyed having me in their home. They made me feel like I was royalty or something. In my head I kept thinking. “I’m not worthy, I’m not worthy!” With all my heart, I thank Amber and Ducson for memories that I’ll cherish for as long as I live. I look forward to visiting again.
Feels Like Home
I spent the last year of my life on the road for Vegan Outreach, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to reducing the suffering of farmed animals by promoting informed, ethical eating. While traveling, I stayed with strangers from all over the United States and Canada. I slept in beds, on couches, and on floors in hundreds of homes around North America. Of all the many places I stayed, Amber and Duc’s home stands out as one of the most memorable, and for good reason.
I stayed at their lovely house in Ithaca on two separate occasions for about a week at a time. While there, I felt truly at home, a rare luxury for the touring activist. Amber and Duc were great. I felt comfortable with them immediately, and enjoyed indulging in conversations on a variety of topics of philosophical depth and value. The two were happy to show me around town where we explored a variety of interesting local landmarks.
Also, I would be remiss if I failed to mention Amber and Duc’s absolutely stellar vegan cooking! It was without a doubt some of the best homemade food I’ve ever had. Just thinking about Amber’s vegan soul food and Duc’s chocolate-filled beignets makes my mouth water!
If you’re visiting Ithaca I would highly recommend a stay at their beautiful home. I am forever grateful for the hospitality they showed me during my time on tour.
Amber and Duc are a charming pair of hosts. They’ll make sure you’re comfortable and have everything you need, down to the slightest detail. Plus, Amber is an amazing vegan chef and will go out of her way to accommodate other special diets. When I told her I wasn’t eating gluten, salt, or oil, she didn’t bat an eye. A quinoa porridge with fresh fruit was served at breakfast with an amazing Swiss chard frittata. And the cats! They make it feel just like home!
The Tuxedo Cat B&B is the only way I can imagine visiting Ithaca. A beautiful home only steps away from the heart of the city and yet in the middle of country. Downtown is full of art, theater, dining, dancing, shopping and more to cater to any interest. Duc and Amber were more than willing to tell me of all hot spots and must sees. If nature is more your thing or you just want a change of pace you can visit picturesque waterfalls and hike along gorges and still not need to set foot in a car to get there. Everything is so close in this small town with a big heart it’s fantastic.
What’s even more fantastic is the gourmet vegan cooking that you’ll be glad you worked up an appetite exploring for. Every day the meals just kept getting better and better when I didn’t think it was possible. On top of all that they really make you feel at home at the Tuxedo Cat and that has more value than any comfy bed, service or food can. I left feeling I had made life long friends and I hope they become yours too.
Love the Cats
I’ve stayed at the Tuxedo Cat Bed and Breakfast and it feels like family. Amber and Duc are so welcoming and friendly. I also cannot forget to mention their oh so loving kitties who slept by our feet throughout the night. From the moment we walked in I felt right at home, with slippers being offered right at the door.
The vegan food is absolutely delicious and made with such care and dedication. While waiting for the food to be prepped I read one of many vegan cookbooks they have and I learned many new recipes. The house is beautiful and very clean. It is also located in a great area, convenient to everything in Ithaca within walking distance. If you want to stay at a place with great food and great hosts I highly recommend this B&B. I can’t wait for my next visit!
